Norwegian musician Simen Hestnæs, known as ICS Vortex, launched his solo project in 2011 following years of work as a vocalist and bassist for Dimmu Borgir, Borknagar, and Arcturus. The debut album Storm Seeker (2011), recorded at Toproom Studio in Norway with drummer Asgeir Mickelson, drew together progressive metal, black metal, and the melodic vocal approach Hestnæs refined through those previous collaborations. Activity under the ICS Vortex name has been limited since then, with Hestnæs maintaining focus on his other bands.
