Djerv are an Oslo rock and metal band led by vocalist Agnete Kjolsrud, whose fierce, elastic delivery gives the group its unmistakable center. Formed in 2010 after members' work in Animal Alpha and Stonegard, Djerv entered the Norwegian heavy scene with a self-titled debut that fused hard rock swagger, heavy metal drive, black metal bite, and modern production. Songs such as "Headstone" and "Madman" showed a band able to sound catchy without losing menace, while later returns after periods of quiet activity kept their identity alive through singles, festival appearances, and soundtrack work connected to major game and animation projects. Djerv fit metal scope through heavy riffing, extreme-metal influence, and clear ties to Norway's broader rock and metal ecosystem. Their music is hook-forward but never lightweight; the guitars have grit, the drums push hard, and Kjolsrud's voice can turn from melodic command to feral attack quickly. Djerv's strength is contrast. They make metal feel theatrical and accessible without smoothing away its teeth, giving each song a charged, high-voltage personality.

Emperor are a Norwegian black metal band from Notodden, formed in 1991 by Ihsahn and Samoth and widely regarded as one of the defining groups of the genre's second wave. Beginning with early demos and the Emperor EP, the band quickly developed a sound that combined black metal's speed, shrieked vocals, and hostile atmosphere with symphonic keyboards, complex composition, and a sense of imperial scale. In the Nightside Eclipse became a landmark because it made black metal feel vast and otherworldly without losing its ferocity. Later albums such as Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, IX Equilibrium, and Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire & Demise pushed the music toward greater technicality and progressive structure, especially through Ihsahn's increasingly ambitious writing. Emperor's history is inseparable from the turbulence and criminal darkness surrounding parts of the early Norwegian scene, but the band's musical influence stands on its own. They helped define how black metal could be majestic, intricate, and violent at once. Their rare live returns have only reinforced the reputation. Emperor matter because they expanded extreme metal's vocabulary, proving that atmosphere and sophistication could intensify rather than dilute black metal's fundamental coldness.

Founded in Paris in December 2002, Glorior Belli emerged as one of France's most distinctive black metal acts, distinguished by an increasingly pronounced integration of Southern rock, blues, and doom into their sound. Early albums like Manifesting the Raging Beast on Southern Lord and Meet Us at the Southern Sign on Candlelight Records built a reputation for orthodox ferocity, while The Great Southern Darkness on Metal Blade in 2011 fully realized their swampy, genre-crossing vision. Their idiosyncratic approach to black metal remains a reference point for the genre's experimental edges.

Ofermod is a Swedish black and death metal band founded in 1996 by Michayah Belfagor, taking their name from an Old English term meaning excessive pride, drawn from a 1953 J.R.R. Tolkien essay. The band's early single Mystérion Tés Anomias (1998) became a cult artifact in the Swedish underground, and after years of inactivity tied to Belfagor's personal circumstances, the band resumed with the debut full-length Tiamtü (2008), produced by Magnus Andersson of Marduk. Subsequent albums Thaumiel (2012) and Sol Nox (2017) extended Ofermod's reputation for theologically dense, occult-oriented black metal.
