French Nordic folk ensemble SKÁLD conjure the spirit of the Viking Age through haunting vocal arrangements sung primarily in Old Norse, accompanied by traditional instruments like the talharpa, jouhikko, and shamanic drums. Their albums 'Vikings Chant,' 'Vikings Memories,' and 'Huldufólk' draw from the Poetic Edda and Norse mythology to create immersive sonic journeys through the ancient Scandinavian world. Songleikr is the passion project of Maria Franz, best known as one half of the ritualistic performance group Heilung, exploring Nordic folk traditions through intimate, acoustic arrangements and haunting vocal work. Since 2016, the project has evolved from traditional source material on 'Godtfolk' to more original, progressively structured compositions on 2026's 'Fuglefolk.' Featuring collaborators including Ingrid Galadriel Aune Falch and traditional Nordic instruments, Songleikr offers a deeply personal counterpoint to Heilung's thunderous ceremonial performances.
