Formed in 1990 in Sweden by Stefan Brisland-Ferner and collaborators, Garmarna built their sound around traditional Scandinavian ballads and folk melodies filtered through modern electronics, beats, and loops. Their second full-length earned them a Swedish Grammy for best folk album of 1996, and releases like Vittrad and Vengeance established them as leaders in Nordic folk-rock. After a lengthy hiatus, they returned with Förbundet in 2020 on Season of Mist, largely comprising interpretations of traditional Swedish folk songs.
