Liv Kristine Espenæs is a Norwegian vocalist born in 1976 who first gained recognition as a founding member of Norwegian gothic metal band Theatre of Tragedy, where her soprano voice was paired with male death growls in a contrast that helped define the genre's classic sound. She launched her solo career in 1997, debuting with Deus Ex Machina (1998, Massacre Records), a gothic rock and darkwave album distinct from her metal work. After co-founding Leaves' Eyes in 2003 with Alexander Krull and recording with that band for over a decade, she departed in 2016 to continue solo work.

Varberg, SE · 2000–present · active
Swedish symphonic melodic death metal band from Varberg with roots back to 2000, blending Tolkien-inspired themes with orchestral melodeath. Their Tolkien-referencing name signals the epic, fantasy-driven character of their quarter-century output.
Bor, RS · 2024–present · active
Serbian symphonic black metal band from Bor, formed in 2024 and layering orchestral grandeur over blackened aggression. Their Latin name, meaning 'shadow play,' captures the theatrical, dramatic character of their symphonic approach.
CH · 1998–present · active
Lunatica was founded in Suhr, Switzerland in the winter of 1998, quickly establishing themselves in the European symphonic metal scene with their debut Atlantis (2001). The band earned early recognition by winning the Best Newcomers award at the Swiss metal festival Metaldayz, and continued with Fables & Dreams (2004), The Edge of Infinity (2006), and New Shores (2009) on Napalm Records. Their orchestral arrangements and melodic vocal approach place them within the Nightwish and After Forever tradition of European symphonic metal.
