Virus was formed in Oslo, Norway in 2000 by Carl-Michael Eide, a veteran of the avant-garde black metal project Ved Buens Ende, alongside bassist Petter Berntsen and drummer Einar Sjurso. The band's sound occupied an unusual space between progressive rock, post-punk, and extreme metal, drawing frequent comparisons to Voivod and Talking Heads, and released four studio albums between 2003 and 2016 through Season of Mist and Karisma Records.
