Vainaja is a three-piece death/doom metal band from Helsinki, Finland, formed in 2011 and performing entirely in Finnish. Their albums — including "Kadotetut," "Verenvalaja," and "Kiviristi" — are concept-driven narratives based on encrypted historical events, combining crushing riffs with dark melodies in what has been called one of the heaviest Finnish-language records.
Kiruna's Valarauk delivers crushing death-doom from above the Arctic Circle, channeling the extreme northern Swedish climate's oppressive darkness into slow, heavy compositions. Their geographic remoteness infuses their music with a genuine sense of desolation.
Vallenfyre formed in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England in 2010 as a project initiated by Paradise Lost lead guitarist Gregor Mackintosh following the death of his father. The band's debut A Fragile King (2011) channeled grief through old-school British death-doom and Swedish death metal aesthetics, featuring a lineup that included members of My Dying Bride, At the Gates, and Doom. Three albums were released before the band concluded with a final performance in 2018, leaving behind Splinters (2014) and Fear Those Who Fear Him (2017) as further installments.
Vampyromorpha is a heavy/doom metal duo from Würzburg, Germany, founded in 2014 by Nemes Black and Jim Grant, who describes their work as "adult oriented doom metal" with Hammond organ. Across releases from their 2015 self-titled debut to 2019's "Herzog," they draw on disturbing horror cinema, dark storytelling, and themes of mental anguish.
Vandal X is a two-piece noise rock turned sludge/doom band from Ghent, Belgium, active since 1995 with a "louder than anyone" attitude. Across nine releases spanning two decades — from 1998's "Little Man's Blues" to 2019's "Blood On The Street" — the duo combines hardcore's punch with noisy punk grit and increasingly heavy doom textures.
Trollhattan's Vanha crafts sorrowful death-doom metal that channels the gloom of Sweden's industrial western coast into crushingly heavy, melancholic compositions. Their patient approach layers mournful melodies over grinding rhythms, creating an immersive atmosphere of autumnal desolation.
Varechian is a doom/death metal band from Villeurbanne, France, formed in 2019. They combine the crushing weight of doom with death metal's guttural intensity.
Vascular Curse is a doom/death metal band from Oulu, Finland, formed in 2020. They combine doom metal's oppressive weight with death metal's guttural ferocity.
Vast Pyre is a stoner/doom metal band from Eisenach, Germany, formed in 2024, inviting listeners to "dive into a world of heavy-hypnotising riffs and unhinged souls." Their releases deliver slow, crushing stoner doom with hypnotic repetition and oppressive atmosphere.
