1,592 Metal Shows Mapped for 2026 — London Alone Accounts for Nearly 10% of the Entire Circuit

A New Baseline for European Metal Touring

As of 2026-10-18, European Metal Index indexes 1,592 scheduled metal, punk, and heavy music shows across Europe for 2026. This is the first year our index has tracked touring activity at this scale, which means we don't yet have a comparable 2025 dataset to measure growth against — our records show 0 shows logged for the prior year, so any year-over-year percentage change would be misleading rather than informative. Instead of forcing a growth narrative onto incomplete data, we're treating 2026 as the baseline. What follows is a straightforward look at where those 1,592 shows are actually happening.

The City Breakdown: UK Cities Dominate the Top of the List

Of the cities tracked in our index, the current leaderboard for 2026 show volume is topped entirely by cities in the United Kingdom. That's a notable pattern worth flagging on its own, independent of any year-over-year comparison.

RankCity2026 Shows
1London154
2Manchester91
3Glasgow71
4Birmingham52
5Bristol49

Combined, these five cities account for 417 of the 1,592 total shows indexed for 2026 — roughly 26% of all touring activity we currently track, concentrated in just five metro areas. London alone represents 154 shows, or about 9.7% of the entire 2026 circuit on its own. No other single city comes close to that share; Manchester, in second place, has 63 fewer shows than London, a gap of more than 40%.

What the Glasgow and Birmingham Numbers Suggest

Glasgow's 71 shows and Birmingham's 52 shows put both cities solidly ahead of most mid-sized European metal markets we track, at least based on current indexing. Bristol rounds out the top five with 49 shows. The gap between Birmingham (52) and Bristol (49) is narrow — just three shows — suggesting those two cities are functioning as a similarly sized touring tier, distinct from the larger gap separating Glasgow (71) from Birmingham (52), a drop of 19 shows.

It's worth being direct about what this list does and doesn't tell us. The fact that the top five growth cities are all UK-based likely reflects, in part, where our indexing has been most thorough to date, rather than a definitive statement that the UK outpaces every mainland European market in absolute touring volume. As our coverage of venues and promoters across other European countries deepens, we'd expect this list to shift. We'll be watching that closely in future updates.

Reading the 1,592 Figure in Context

1,592 shows across a full calendar year works out to roughly 4.4 shows indexed per day on average, though touring activity is rarely evenly distributed — expect clustering around festival season and weekend date patterns that we'll explore in future posts once more granular monthly data is available. For now, the headline number stands on its own: 1,592 is the figure to beat, and it's the number every future comparison on this site will be measured against.

Fans and promoters looking to see what's actually on the calendar right now can browse the full list of upcoming shows directly. For those tracking specific scenes, our broader database can also be filtered by style, including Metal bands currently active on the circuit.

Why There's No Growth Percentage This Time

We want to be transparent about a limitation in this dataset: because our 2025 show records show 0 entries, the "changePercent" field in our underlying data resolves to 0, not because touring volume didn't grow, but because we simply weren't tracking at sufficient depth last year to produce an honest comparison. Reporting a 0% change or, worse, an inflated percentage off a near-empty base would misrepresent what's actually happening on the ground. Rather than publish a misleading year-over-year figure, we're establishing 2026's 1,592 shows as the first reliable baseline in our index. Expect real, defensible year-over-year comparisons once 2027 touring data rolls in.

Methodology

This analysis is based on European Metal Index's own first-party database of bands, shows, and venues across Europe, as queried on 2026-10-18. The dataset reflects 1,592 shows currently indexed for the 2026 calendar year, with per-city breakdowns pulled directly from venue and event records in our system. Prior-year (2025) show data was not available at comparable depth in our index at the time of writing, which is why year-over-year percentage change is not reported as a meaningful figure in this piece. City rankings reflect shows indexed at the time of writing and are subject to change as additional tour dates, venue confirmations, and show listings are added to the database. No external sources were used in compiling this report.
