Waylander
Formed in 1993 in Armagh, Northern Ireland, Waylander are among the earliest bands to forge Celtic folk instrumentation — tin whistle, uilleann pipes — into extreme metal, alongside contemporaries Primordial and Cruachan. Their 1998 Century Media debut Reawakening Pride Once Lost established the template, blending Irish folk melody with blackened aggression. Subsequent albums The Light, the Dark and the Endless Knot (2001) and Honour Amongst Chaos (2008) refined the approach across two different labels, cementing their reputation as foundational architects of Celtic metal.
