Vallenfyre formed in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England in 2010 as a project initiated by Paradise Lost lead guitarist Gregor Mackintosh following the death of his father. The band's debut A Fragile King (2011) channeled grief through old-school British death-doom and Swedish death metal aesthetics, featuring a lineup that included members of My Dying Bride, At the Gates, and Doom. Three albums were released before the band concluded with a final performance in 2018, leaving behind Splinters (2014) and Fear Those Who Fear Him (2017) as further installments.
