Motanka
Formed in Lutsk, Ukraine in 2015, Motanka blend traditional Ukrainian instruments — including the dulcimer and ocarina — with heavy metal, a style the band describes as "mystic metal." The band's name references the handmade motanka dolls of Ukrainian folk tradition, and their self-titled debut album appeared via Napalm Records in 2019 following a second-place finish at Wacken Open Air Metal Battle in 2018. Their music draws directly on Ukrainian folk heritage, incorporating throat singing alongside conventional metal instrumentation.
