Golden Dawn
Founded in Salzburg, Austria in 1992 by Stefan Traunmüller as a one-man project, Golden Dawn emerged from the same fertile scene as Abigor and Summoning, with whom they shared membership in the Austrian Black Metal Syndicate. The debut album The Art of Dreaming, recorded with session assistance from Abigor's Thomas Tannenberger and Pungent Stench's Martin Schirenc, established a melodic, atmospheric black metal approach that evolved toward gothic influences on subsequent releases. Masquerade appeared on Napalm Records seven years later, and the band has continued intermittently with albums including Return to Provenance in 2012.
