Caliban formed in Hattingen, Germany in 1997 under the name Never Again, taking their current name from Shakespeare's The Tempest and relocating to Essen. One of Germany's longest-running metalcore acts, the band released their debut A Small Boy and a Grey Heaven in 1999 and have since issued thirteen studio albums, including Ghost Empire (2014) which entered the German charts at number seven. Their 2025 album Back from Hell marks over a quarter-century of continuous activity.
